“Book Club” managed to find something in the audience to inspire a sequel, at least five years later, writer/director Bill Holderman tried his luck again with “Book Club: The Next Chapter.” The director has restrained the awkward parody this time around, keeping things particularly sitcom, as the four capable actresses attempt to convey each line as though they were selling used cars. Book club members Vivian, Diane, Sharon and Carol, separated for years by the pandemic, are set to reunite in person, finally reviving a long-dormant plan to travel to Italy.
